The 440 rear under door has this section that sticks out and - as far as I can understand - has two functions. 1) it holds the gas strut which helps to lift up the door and 2) it has a protruding end that - I assume - can be used to close the door with ones foot from inside the UEV.

I haven't mastered this technique of closing the door and find it much easier to use a small piece of rope to do the same. The problem I have with this contraption is that it sticks out and sits in the way when I try to close the mesh fly screen door.

So ... out comes the metal saw.

When the door is open it is now completely free from the mesh door and I can easily open and close it. Also, when the mesh door is open and I close the hatch the risk of the mesh part getting damaged is much smaller.
